France shuts down Fessenheim Nuclear Reactor One

The second reactor of the oldest nuclear power plant in France in operation will be shut down on June 30

The reactor 1 of the Fessenheim nuclear power plant, was disconnected from the national electricity grid on Saturday around 2:00 am, as expected, EDF announced. The Alsatian power station is the oldest in France in operation.

The shutdown operation of the 900-megawatt reactor began around 8:30 p.m. Friday evening. The procedure went normally, with great emotion in the control room, according to EDF. The second reactor of the plant will be shut down on June 30. Then begin a long phase of dismantling which should last twenty years
