The Danish team pursuit quartet improved their afternoon world record Wednesday evening in 3 min 46.203 seconds in the second round of the world track cycling championship in Berlin.

A few hours earlier, Lasse Norman Hansen, Julius Johansen, Frederik Rodenberg Madsen, and Rasmus Pedersen had improved the best world mark in qualifying with a time of 3 minutes 46.579 seconds.

The Danes will face New Zealand on Thursday in the gold medal final. Italy and Australia will compete for bronze.

The previous world record belonged to Australia, in 3 min 48.012 sec achieved in Pruszkow (Poland), during the previous world championships.

Another world record was broken Wednesday in Berlin, in team speed, by the Netherlands in 41.275 seconds.

The previous record in this category dates from 2013 and was established by the Germans in 41.871 sec at Aguascalientes, at altitude in Mexico. The Dutch record-men are Jeffrey Hoogland, Harrie Lavreysen and Roy van den Berg.
