The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tested positive for the coronavirus. Johnson said on Friday on Twitter that he had developed mild symptoms over the past 24 hours and had taken the test on the advice of the government’s chief medical adviser.
He wrote that he had “isolated himself” at home and that he would now conduct government business via video conferences.

In a video clip, he thanked the more than 500,000 volunteers who volunteered to fight the Coronavirus. “We’ll get through this together!” He said and again asked the British to stay at home.

Johnson had previously held daily press conferences at 10 Downing Street. Where he might have been infected is unclear. Crown Prince Charles had already tested positive on Wednesday.

Britain had seen more than 100 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours for the first time on Thursday. According to the London Ministry of Health, 115 people have died of lung disease Covid-19 since Wednesday. The number of deaths in the United Kingdom rose to 578.

Around 11,700 people in the country were demonstrably infected with the virus. However, the actual number of infected people is likely to be much higher. The UK has so far carried out only a few tests compared to Germany and has long hesitated to introduce drastic measures to contain the pandemic.
