Golf fans have to do without the British Open

Sandwich – According to the “Golf Digest” magazine, the British Open cannot take place because of the coronavirus pandemic and are about to be canceled.

The 149th edition of the traditional tournament should have been held on July 16 at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club in South East England. As the US magazine wrote, citing anonymous sources, the decision could become official as early as Thursday. It would be the first rejection since World War II.

According to the article, those responsible wanted to await the decision for the tennis tournament in Wimbledon. The Grand Slam in London had been canceled the day before. Like Wimbledon, the British Open are said to be insured in the event of a pandemic cancellation. Major golf tournaments such as the Masters in Augusta and the PGA Championship have so far only been postponed, but have not been canceled.
