Berlin. In Germany at least 1001 people who had been infected with the new coronavirus had died by Thursday evening. This is the result of an evaluation by the German Press Agency, which takes into account the latest figures from the federal states.
Bavaria has particularly high numbers with more than 19,100 proven cases and at least 277 deaths and North Rhine-Westphalia with more than 17,600 cases and at least 202 deaths. Based on 100,000 inhabitants, Bavaria has the highest number of infections with a value of 146.5. The national average was 95.6.
Several Germans died abroad in connection with a corona infection. As for other countries, experts also expect a high number of unreported cases in Germany.
In other European countries, deaths are increasing significantly faster: In Spain, authorities said Thursday that 950 people died within 24 hours. The total number is now more than 10,000 dead, said the health authorities. In total, more than 4,500 people died in French hospitals, 471 more than the previous day, said health director Jerome Salomon on Thursday evening. Italy reported more than 760 deaths in the course of the corona pandemic in one day and now has 13,915 deaths (as of Thursday evening).
Most of the proven cases of infection exist in the United States – more than 215,000 were on Thursday evening. This comes from data from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
