Frankfurt / Main – The German Olympic Sports Federation will no longer take away the Olympic ticket from the athletes who are already qualified for the summer games in Tokyo, which have been postponed by one year.

“The IOC has announced that the qualification places already achieved will also remain valid for Tokyo 2020 in 2021,” said DOSB sports director Dirk Schimmelpfennig. “We will take this into account in the nominations in the coming year.”

The International Olympic Committee had made it clear on Thursday that the final decision on the nomination of the athletes remained with the respective National Olympic Committee. 57 percent of the expected 11,300 Tokyo Olympic participants had already secured a starting place for the games in Japan. Due to the corona pandemic, the IOC, the organizers and the Japanese government decided after a long delay to postpone the summer games by one year. Olympia in Tokyo is scheduled to open on July 23, 2021.
