London » British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been hospitalized for his Covid 19 illness. The government headquarters Downing Street in London announced in the evening at the request of the German press agency.

“It is a precautionary step because the prime minister still has symptoms ten days after he tested positive for the coronavirus,” the government said.

The 55-year-old conservative politician announced his infection on Friday last week and retired to his office in self-isolation. But a week later he complained of fever. It was initially unclear whether he could continue his official business. According to media reports, his deputy would be Foreign Minister Dominic Raab.

Johnson’s fiancee Carrie Symonds, too, said she had spent a week in bed with symptoms of Covid-19 lung disease. The 32-year-old former communications chief of the Conservative Party said on Twitter on Saturday. However, it was not tested.

“After seven days of rest, I feel stronger and on the mend,” said Symonds. Being pregnant with Covid-19 was obviously disturbing, she added and shared an online information brochure with her followers. “Please read and follow the latest guidelines, which I found very reassuring,” she wrote. Johnson and Symonds had only announced their engagement and pregnancy at the end of February. The baby is supposed to be born in early summer.
