Munich – Triple coach Jupp Heynckes has praised FC Bayern Munich for the continued employment of Hansi Flick as head coach.

“It is a wise decision on the part of FCB to sign Hansi Flick as head coach,” said the former Munich coach to the German press agency. “He is the ideal coach for me because he has already gained a lot of experience in various positions in football in the past,” said 74-year-old Heynckes, who won the historic triple with Munich in 2013, i.e. the titles in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League.

Bayern had shown an attractive and successful football in the past few months, said Heynckes and praised Flick again: “His qualities are professional competence, leadership in all areas, seriousness, solidity, and an excellent public presentation.”

In the midst of the intermittent play due to the corona pandemic, the German football record champion announced on Friday that the 55-year-old Flick had signed an early contract extension until June 30, 2023. “I wish him and FCB the greatest success in all three competitions,” said Heynckes.

The former Bayern coach played an advisory role in personnel matters. Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reported some phone calls to Heynckes. “From Jupp’s point of view, Hansi is a perfect fit for FC Bayern,” said Rummenigge of “Bild” (Saturday). Flick reminded him of Heynckes himself: “Both are particularly distinguished by this empathetic approach to the team.”
