Shortly before the first anniversary of the Notre-Dame fire, Archbishop of Paris Michel Aupetit will worship the crown of thorns in the world-famous cathedral. The event on Good Friday was a “time of meditation”, the whole thing was not a mass, said the archdiocese on Tuesday. Aupetit will be accompanied by Notre-Dame director Patrick Chauvet and Parisian Auxiliary Bishop Denis Jachiet.

The actress Judith Chemla and her colleague Philippe Torreton finally read texts – for example from the French writer Paul Claudel or Mother Teresa. The event is to be broadcast on television.

    Saved from the flames

The crown of thorns was saved from the flames in the fire on April 15, 2019. It is said to be those who Roman soldiers put Jesus Christ on his head before his crucifixion. The fund of the Paris Cathedral claims to have raised a good 375 million euros in donations since the fire in Notre-Dame. Almost 56 million euros have already been received, the rest are firm commitments. However, this sum is not the total amount of the donations, since other foundations have also raised money for the reconstruction of the world-famous cathedral.
The construction site in the church, which was built between 1163 and 1345, has been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus crisis. TEH
