ODENWALDKREIS – The contagion with the coronavirus in the Odenwaldkreis had a fatal outcome for four other elderly people by Tuesday afternoon. The press office of the Odenwaldkreis has now made this public. This means that the number of deceased district residents whose death has been proven to have been a disease of COVID-19 has increased to 15. According to the district administration, three of the fatalities from Monday evening to Tuesday noon were older than 80 years, the fourth older than 70. All of them thus belonged to the group for whom the virus poses a high risk in view of the age and often associated with previous illnesses.

There is therefore always a particular danger in the spread of Sars-Cov-2 to old people’s homes and nursing homes, which has repeatedly occurred with a correspondingly negative impact on the local form of the pandemic in the Odenwald district. As reported, the wave of infections affected three of these facilities, which is reflected in both mortality and the occurrence of severe courses. The need for hospital or even intensive care testifies to them: a total of 22 residents of the Odenwald district have to be treated in hospital, for which eight of them have been transferred to clinics outside the district. The health center in Erbach is currently looking for 14 corona patients, seven of whom are in the intensive care unit.

36 people recovered

The number of deaths in the district area has also increased the number of infections detected. However, with an increase of six recently discovered infections, the development fits back into the usual framework and, like in many places, is relativized by the simultaneous recovery of those affected. For example, five Odenwald forests have recently been released as cured from inpatient treatment or domestic quarantine, which means that the disease has been overcome in 36 of the 138 people who have now tested positive. With this total number, however, the Odenwaldkreis is still significantly above the average concern in the regions of Hesse. This is particularly evident in the incidence, i.e. the virus occurrence per 100,000 inhabitants. In the Odenwald district, it reached a value of around 143 for the entire pandemic period. The Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs, on the other hand, measured the degree of infection in the recent past, ie in the past seven days. It extends to 68 people in the Odenwaldkreis, which corresponds to an incidence of 70. The national average of just under 21 is clearly exceeded here, but this also applies to several other circles with special effects.
