Years ago, she was drugged and made compliant on her birthday in a restaurant. The perpetrator detained her for several weeks, even flew abroad with her and traveled back, Duffy said. He raped her in the hotel room and her own house. The man had taken care not to see his face and threatened to kill her.

The 35-year-old reports of gaps in memory. The perpetrator, it sounds, is still at large. The state of the investigation is not clear from the lines. After not appearing publicly for years, the Welsh woman came back with a shocking message. She moved several times out of fear. Now she was of hiding, “never feeling free and unencumbered” emphasizes Duffy.

A few weeks ago, Duffy sent the BBC presenter Jo Whiley the song “Something Beautiful”, her first new song in many years.
