Spain reports the lowest death toll since March 24th

Madrid (AP) – Spain has seen the lowest number of new deaths since March 24 in the fight against the Corona Virus on Friday. According to the Ministry of Health, 605 deceased patients were recorded within 24 hours and the total number now amounts to around 15,800. The previous day, 683 deaths had been registered, at times more than 900 victims were reported per day, and the rate of new infections continued to decline: it was only three percent. The total number of cases recorded was 157,000. “The downward trend continues,” said a spokeswoman for the Health Emergency Agency (CCAES), Maria Jose Sierra.

For several days now, the rate of growth in Spain, which has been severely affected by the pandemic, has remained at a comparatively low level. The strict exit restrictions that had been in place for the almost 47 million Spaniards that had been in force for a month appeared to be having an effect. By Friday afternoon, 3,500 COVID-19 patients who had been diagnosed as recovered were added within 24 hours, meaning that more than 55,000 people were healthy again according to official statistics.

The region of La Rioja in the north of the country reported more discharged patients than new infections for the first time since the crisis began. On Thursday, the parliament approved an extension of the alarm status including a day-out ban until midnight on April 25. Then there could be gradual easing for the population if the positive development continues. New figures from the Ministry of HealthTweet Health Department La Rioja
