Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Dr Nayef Al-Hajraf condemned the Israeli plans to annex parts of the West Bank.

Dr Al-Hajraf emphasized in a press statement the importance of the decision issued by the Arab League Council meeting at the ministerial level in its extraordinary session today that the Israeli occupation authorities implement their plans to annex any part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967, including the Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea and the lands built on it. Israeli settlements and their environs constitute a grave breach of the Charter and United Nations resolutions and principles of international law that prevent the conduct or annexation of occupied lands.

The resolution also condemned Israeli policies and practices against the Palestinian people and their sanctities, including what is taking place in occupied East Jerusalem and the recent Israeli aggression aimed at controlling the Islamic Waqf lands around the Ibrahimi Mosque in the occupied Hebron city and the siege of the Gaza Strip.

Al-Hajraf stressed the GCC’s steadfast stance on the Palestinian issue as the first Arab and Muslim issue and its support for the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people over all the Palestinian territories occupied since June 1967 and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He stressed the necessity of activating the efforts of the international community to resolve the conflict in a way that meets all the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people in accordance with the Arab peace initiative and international legitimacy.
