Syrian doctors fight “Corona” with limited ammunition

– Published on:

The role of the doctors was not limited to their presence in hospitals to deal with emergency cases and virus infections but also recruited themselves in the virtual arenas to serve the citizens in their homes in the application of the quarantine, and this was done by the members of the Syrian health platform “Meadows”.

The team includes 200 doctors, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and a nurse, and was established more than two years ago. One of the founders of the platform, Doctor Ahmed Mohamed (neurosurgeon,), indicates that the team members are “averse to all social media to provide the necessary medical information within all disciplines in a simple language close to the people.” The team also launched the “first medical call center” in Syria to inquire about the Corona epidemic through a hotline available to all. And a second center to provide answers to all questions about any disease for people trapped in their homes, through a list that changes daily with the numbers of several doctors with different specialties. This is in addition to the regular live broadcasts of doctors, especially the specialties of chest and nutrition, to provide advice to people to prevent and strengthen immunity.

And the doctor Muhammed adds: “The team issued an electronic book entitled (Meadows fighting Corona) that includes hundreds of questions and inquiries on the subject of corona and medical answers to it from reliable sources, and the book was updated after a while as information about the virus developed.”

As for Dr. Reham Shrouf (a doctor in the Dermatology Hospital in Damascus and a member of Meadows), she spends many hours translating research and studies, responding to citizens ’inquiries and electronic communication with them to provide a free medical service, in addition to her work in the hospital’s ambulance department.

The experience of the “Meadows” platform was generalized to more than one party and medical team, some of which are affiliated with the Ministry of Health at the level of all of Syria, including local initiatives; and although the efforts made in this field are far from dangerous, they are very important to fight the virus.
