The Venezuelan authorities arrested eight people on Monday. They were the second group of “mercenaries” who were in a coastal area in the state of Aragua not yet determined, reported the governor of that region, Rodolfo Marco Torres.

«Through social intelligence and the civic-military police unit, the capture of these mercenaries was achieved. They underestimate a people who are courageously prepared to defend our sovereignty, ”said Torres on his Twitter account.

The governor explained that for the arrest of the eight people there was “an extraordinary deployment” of the Armed Forces and the state police, as well as “the heroic action of the fishing people” in Chuao, a coastal town in Aragua.

The detainees, always according to the governor’s explanation on that social network, are “linked to terrorist actions against Venezuela.”

Torres accompanied the message with some photos in which a boat with two engines and a group of detained people can be seen, guarded lying on the ground next to a police vehicle.

Even though so far no other authority has provided more information in this regard, the Venezuelan Government continues the operation that began on Sunday, when it frustrated an alleged maritime invasion of mercenaries and ex-military personnel, through the state of La Guaira (north, near Caracas), which intended to end the Administration of Nicolás Maduro, in power since 2013.

During the operation, as stressed on Sunday by the president of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), Diosdado Cabello, 8 of the attackers died and two others were captured by Venezuelan forces.

This same Monday, the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, added that the failed maritime raid had as a “central objective” to kill him. He also accused Colombia and the United States of the failed operation and denounced the facts to the international community.
