Russia's national idea is non-lethal patriotism

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the national idea of Russia is patriotism; at the same time, he noted, patriotism should not be leavened. The corresponding statement was made in an interview with the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin.”

“Yes, in patriotism, I think there can be nothing else here … But patriotism should not be leavened, musty and sour,” the president said, answering the question of the presenter about the national idea of Russia.

“Patriotism consists of devoting oneself to the development of the country, its advancement … This doesn’t mean at all that you need to grab hold of our heroic past all the time, you need to look into our equally heroic and successful future, and this is the key to success”, – Putin also emphasized.

At the end of 2018, President Putin, answering questions during a major press conference, said that patriotism was the only possible ideology of modern democratic society. “Regarding whether we have an idea or not … I have already said many times. I believe that in the best, not kvass sense of this word, patriotism cannot but be the basis for strengthening our state, in the broad and in the noblest sense of the word, ”he said then.
