President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelenskyyy decided to make the two main holidays of the Islamic religion – Kurban Bayram(Eid al-Adha) and Uraza Bayram(Eid al-Fitr) – public holidays in the country. On Monday, May 18, said the press service of the office of the Ukrainian leader.
The corresponding agreement, as stated in the message, was reached during a meeting of Zelenskyyy with representatives of the Crimean Tatars. In addition, in a conversation with delegates from the Crimean Tatar people, the Ukrainian president said that their community should be represented at the highest diplomatic level . In this regard, the candidacy of Emine Dzhaparova was agreed to of First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The head of state also announced the construction of a large mosque in Kiev, the project of which the Crimean Tatars themselves will have to present.
Eid al-Adha is celebrated on the tenth day of the 12th month of the Muslim lunar calendar. A distinctive feature of the celebration is the traditional animal sacrifice. Uraza Bayram(Eid al-Fitr), in turn, symbolizes the end of Ramadan, the holy month for Muslims, during which adherents of Islam must observe strict fasting. In the daytime, in Ramadan, Muslims can not only eat, but also smoke, and even drink water.
