The head of Russian diplomacy called the legislative issues of Hong Kong an internal affair of China and sharply criticized the US position.
The Chinese leadership supports and appreciates the statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov regarding the consideration in Beijing of a decision on the security bill of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(Hong Kong) and the US’s reaction to this.
“China fully agrees and appreciates the statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, which fully proves the high level of our bilateral relations,” said Zhao Lijian, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a briefing on Wednesday. It is quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the diplomat, under the strategic leadership of the leaders of our countries, Sino-Russian relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction in the new era maintain stable and sustainable growth, we strongly support each other, especially on issues of key interest.
We are talking about the draft law “Decisions on the creation and improvement of the legal system and enforcement mechanisms to ensure national security in the special administrative region of Hong Kong.” It was considered by the All-China People’s Congress (Parliament) of China.
As the head of the Hong Kong administration Carrie Lam noted, the adoption of the bill will not affect the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents and that it is directed against separatist and extremist activities, terrorism, and outside interference in Hong Kong’s internal affairs. The bill was also supported by various departments, including the Ministry of Justice, customs and police.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump promised to soon announce the measures that Washington plans to take to China in response to the authorities in relation to Hong Kong. They were declared a capture in the White House.
On this occasion, Sergey Lavrov said that the issue of Xiangang legislation is an internal affair of the PRC, and statements by US officials are permeated with a sense of superiority and permissiveness.
