Derek Chauvin, the police officer who murdered George Floyd charged under law

The Minneapolis police officer squeezed Floyd's neck and this caused his death.

Derek Chauvin, the policeman pressed his knee on the neck of George Floyd, who complained about not being able to breathe several times before his death, he is a veteran of 19 years in the Police Department Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States.

Chauvin had 18 previous complaints filed against him with the Internal Affairs of the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD).

Only two of the 18 complaints against Chauvin were “closed with disciplinary action,” according to a public summary of internal MPD affairs. In both cases, the column “disciplinary measure ordered” indicated that a letter of warning had been issued in response.

The police officer and three other colleagues involved in the arrest and death of George Floyd were fired Tuesday, the day after a video emerged in which the man is seen screaming in pain until he stops breathing. His death sparked a wave of violent protests in Minneapolis and other cities in the United States. The other officers involved were identified as Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng.

Be a dozen complaints during a race two you decades seems a figure “slightly higher than normal, ” said Mylan Masson, a retired policeman Minneapolis Park and expert in police training in Minnesota at Hennepin Technical College.

But, he added, anyone can file a complaint against an officer, whether valid or not, and they could be subject to more complaints if they deal with the public frequently.

In Floyd’s case, an investigation involving state authorities is being conducted by the FBI. Bridgett Floyd, George Floyd’s sister, said she believes that all officers at the scene should be charged with murder.

All officers, including Chauvin, received paid leave during the investigation, which is standard protocol. It is unclear what led to this investigation, and Minneapolis police did not immediately respond to a request to review Chauvin’s service history.
