American intelligence officials revealed that the Russians offered rewards to militants linked to the “Taliban” movement for killing Americans and other coalition forces in Afghanistan.

This came according to a report published by the New York Times this Friday, quoting US intelligence officials, describing them as “hawkish.”

“The United States concluded months ago that the Russian unit, which has been linked to assassination attempts and other covert operations in Europe intended to destabilize the West or take revenge on turncoats, had covertly offered rewards for successful attacks last year (in Afghanistan),” the officials said.

They clarified that “Islamist militants, or armed criminal elements closely associated with them, are believed to have collected some bounty money.”

The newspaper also reported that Twenty Americans were killed in combat in Afghanistan in 2019, but it was not clear which killings were under suspicion.

The officials said that US intelligence conclusions were presented to President Donald Trump, and the White House National Security Council addressed the problem at an inter-agency meeting in late March.

In the same vein, officials have drawn up a list of possible options to deal with the matter, starting with a diplomatic complaint to Moscow and demands for a halt, along with an escalating series of sanctions and other possible responses.

Again, the involvement of Russia in the US elections raises big concerns for President Donald Trump. As well as reports of Obama campaigning for Joe Biden creates a threat for Trump in elections this time.

However, the White House has not yet authorized any step to stop those familiar with the matter, reports The Eastern Herald.

The officials stated that they knew this information during an interrogation of the Taliban, who was arrested.
