Real Madrid ended their two season La Liga drought by beating Villareal by 2-1 and clinching La Liga 2019-20 title. This is Real Madrid’s 34th league title, eight more than their arch-rival Barcelona. Karen Benzema scored both the goals for Madrid and took his to 21 goals (2nd highest in La Liga). This is Zidane’s second La Liga title. Real Madrid is on an unbeaten streak since the league resumed after three breaks due to coronavirus outbreak. Winning title after three years and that too without fans to celebrate is something Madrid never thought of. In this time of adversity players celebrated by pulling off t-shirt with “Campeones 34” printed on it.

After getting knocked out of UEFA Champions League, Copa Del Rey, and losing La Liga title Real Madrid sacked Santiago Solari and appointed Zidane as their new manager in March 2019. Real Madrid finished 3rd in La Liga during the 2018-19 season.

On 6th July Real Madrid signed their long term target Eden Hazard from Chelsea. However, Belgian first season at his dream club was full of injury and was not at his best this season. Although Real Madrid fans have high hopes from him next season.

Madrid started their 2019-20 league campaign with a win against Celta Vigo. Then they went on an unbeaten run of 8 matches before losing to Mallorca during matchday 9. The Vikings are invincible at their home ground in the league this season. They have won 15 matches, and four matches ended all square for them at their home ground. Real Madrid also set a new record of 21 different goalscorers this season.

One of the prominent members in Real Madrid league triumph is their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. After having a calamitous first season, Courtois made a strong comeback this season and has 18 clean sheets (Highest in La Liga). Moreover, their captain Sergio Ramos has been actively involved in defense and attack this season. He has scored 10 league goals this season, highest by any defender.

The next big task for Madrid would be UEFA Champions League. As they will face Manchester City in the 2nd leg of Round of 16. The Vikings have a mountain to climb since they are trailing by 2-1 and the return leg is at City’s home which makes this task all the more arduous. Qualify for Quarterfinals won’t be less than climbing achillea hills for real Madrid.
