Public Designation of Russian National Ramzan Kadyrov Due to Involvement in Gross Violations of Human Rights. This is stated in a statement by the head of the department, Mike Pompeo.
“The Department of State is publicly designating Ramzan Kadyrov, head of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation,” the statement said.
According to the Secretary of State, this decision was dictated by a certain alleged Kadyrov’s participation in “gross violations of human rights” in Chechnya.
In addition to the head of Chechnya, restrictions apply to his spouse Medni Kadyrova, as well as daughters Aishat Kadyrova and Khadizhat Kadyrova.
Pompeo said the State Department will urge “like-minded countries to take similar action.”
Commenting on this statement, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova noted that it would not be easy to mirror these measures.
“But we’ll figure something out,” she assured on her Facebook page.
