Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that equates violation of the country’s territorial integrity with extremism, including the partial alienation of its territory. RIA Novosti reports.

The law clarifies the concept of extremist activity and stipulates that this includes violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation, including the alienation of part of its territory.

The document was prepared by Deputy Pavel Krasheninnikov and Senator Andrei Klishas as part of the implementation of amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation. At the same time, Klishas clarified that the law will also apply to the federal authorities. That is, it will be unacceptable to transfer territories, including on their initiative, and not only on the initiative of regional authorities or the population.

Earlier, the speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said that after the entry into force of the law, statements demanding the alienation of Russian territories will have consequences for their authors, regardless of citizenship.

“This is especially true for our Ukrainian colleagues. Statements that they will make about Crimea will be punished under the laws of the Russian Federation. If they come to our side, they can be arrested. And you can demand their extradition here, ”Volodin said.

Vladimir Mashkov, artistic director of the Oleg Tabakov Theater, put forward a proposal to consolidate a ban on the alienation of Russian territories in the country’s Basic Law.

“You can’t give, you can’t even negotiate on this matter,” Mashkov said at a meeting of members of the working group on drafting amendments to the Constitution with the president in February.

“We have negotiations, nevertheless, going on with our partners on some issues. But I like the idea itself. Let us instruct the lawyers, ask them to formulate it properly, ”the head of state replied then.
