Microsoft is in talks with China’s ByteDance to purchase TikTok’s short video service. The American company announced the course of negotiations on Monday, August 3.
After Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella spoke with US President Donald Trump, it was decided to continue negotiations.
Microsoft promised to complete them no later than September 15 – it is on this day that the ultimatum that Trump put forward to TikTok expires: either the Chinese will sell the service to an American company, or the social network will be blocked in the United States.
Microsoft also looks forward to continuing dialogue with the government and the president.
The corporation assured that after the change of ownership, the operating model of TikTok will be transparent, and all personal data of American users will be stored in the United States.
Trump has already said he supports a deal involving Microsoft or some other “very American and very secure company.” Otherwise, he promises to impose sanctions on TikTok and block the Chinese social network in the United States, reports The New York Times.

The White House has already reported on the preparation of sanctions against Chinese applications TikTok and WeChat. They can pose a threat to US national security since companies registered in the PRC are required to provide any requested information to the government and special services. Thus, they can get unlimited access to the data of any user of Chinese social networks.
