Turkey has signed some very important economic and commercial understandings with Libya, Turkish Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan answered The Eastern Herald during a press conference.

This came in a joint press conference on Thursday, with the Minister of Planning in the Libyan government, Al-Tahir Al-Juhaimi, in Ankara.

“We signed very important economic and commercial agreements with Libya,” Ruhsar said.

Ruhsar Pekcan added that the understandings pave the way for the completion of negotiations between the Turkish companies and their Libyan counterparts.

She explained that the understandings aim to continue the incomplete Turkish projects and to solve the problems faced by the construction projects implemented in Libya.

It indicated that some contracting projects implemented by Turkish companies in Libya in the recent past have stopped and were unable to collect their dues.

Pekcan emphasized that they have done a comprehensive and very important work to solve the problems of projects and receivables that were left in the past, and to achieve new projects and investments in the future.

Pekcan pointed out that the signed document is a guiding document that paves the way for the completion of negotiations between Turkish companies and their Libyan counterparts to reach a solution.

“We believe that the signed document will not remain an obstacle to solving problems between Turkish companies and their Libyan counterparts,” she added.

“We have no doubt that the bosses of the Libyan companies will display all kinds of support and conciliatory approach with Turkish companies in order to conduct results-oriented negotiations,” she added.

Ruhsar stressed that the return of Turkish companies to work on the stalled and new projects will meet the needs of Libya and support stability and development there, and will also contribute to enhancing the well-being of the Libyan people.

It is stated that Turkish contracting companies have implemented more than 10 thousand projects in 127 countries in the world, valued at $407 billion, while the volume of Turkish projects in Libya amounted to $28.6 billion.

Ruhsar indicated that Turkey and Libya are two friendly and brother countries throughout history.
