The British government has officially announced that it does not recognize the results of the presidential elections in Belarus. The corresponding statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom, Dominic Raab.

“The world has watched with horror the violence used by the Belarusian authorities to suppress the peaceful protests that followed the rigged presidential elections,” the statement reads. – Great Britain does not recognize the results of these elections. The UK will work with our international partners to punish those responsible and bring the Belarusian authorities to justice.”

On August 9, the next presidential elections were held in the Republic of Belarus. According to official data, the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko won 80.1% of the vote, and the main opposition candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya – 10.12%. After the announcement of the results, thousands of rallies and protest actions began in the country which were brutally suppressed by the Belarusian security forces in the first days.

On the 11th, a general political strike began in the country, dozens of large enterprises stopped work, the protesters demand the resignation of Alexander Lukashenko and the organization of new elections. On Monday, August 17, the Belarusian president was booed during a meeting with workers of the MZKT; the employees of the enterprise chanted: “Go away! Go away!”
