The military contingent from India will not take part in the Kavkaz-2020 international strategic command and staff exercise, which will be held in Russia. Indian media reported on Sunday, the refusal to participate was confirmed by the Indian Ministry of Defense.

“Russia and India are close and privileged strategic partners. At the invitation of Russia, India is taking part in many international events, ”the ministry said in a statement.

The decision to abandon the exercises was made due to the epidemiological situation in the country and in the world. “In view of the pandemic and the related difficulties in the exercises, including the organization of logistics, India has decided not to send a contingent this year to the Caucasus 2020,” the Defense Ministry said. Russia has already been informed about this decision.

Exercises “Kavkaz-2020” will be held in September this year; they were supposed to be attended by military personnel from five countries. It was planned that 200 soldiers from India would come to Russia to participate in them.
