A challenging task in the concrete jungle: A green skyscraper will clean cities of pollution

With the Paris Agreement in 2015, 195 countries in the world, including Croatia, committed themselves to become carbon neutral by 2050, ie to achieve a zero rate of carbon dioxide emissions.

Carbon neutrality is actually the balance between carbon emissions and its absorption from the atmosphere into carbon sinks such as soil, forests, and oceans. One way to accomplish this valuable but extremely challenging task in concrete jungles is to build green super skyscrapers. Or at least it is the proposal of the French architectural house “Rescubika”, which thus imagined the achievement of carbon neutrality in New York.

Specifically, they are proposing to build a super skyscraper called Mandragora on the narrow island of Roosevelt on the East River between Manhattan and Queens. The super skyscraper would be 737 meters high and have 160 floors.

It would include 36 air turbines, have 1,600 trees planted, and 24,500 square meters of walls would be covered with plants. On top of that, as much as 7,000 square meters of skyscrapers would be covered with solar panels.

The twisted architecture intends to symbolize the relationship of humanity with nature and serve as a reminder that we must preserve our environment in order to live in symbiosis with the planet – explained the representative of “Rescubike”.
