According to Tsikhanouvskaya, Russia should also be involved in the negotiations.

Former presidential candidate in Belarus Svetlana Tsikhanouvskaya said that she intends to come to Berlin early next week with the hope of supporting German Chancellor Angela Merkel in organizing new elections in Belarus, DW reports.

“We will discuss with Angela Merkel the situation in Belarus and the possibility of her playing a mediating role in the negotiations on new elections in Belarus,” Svetlana Tsikhanouvskaya said.

According to her, Russia should also be involved in the negotiations.

Earlier, during a debate in the Bundestag on September 30, Merkel promised that Germany will continue to fight for democracy and human rights, in particular in Belarus.

“Germany does not recognize Lukashenko’s victory in the elections. We urge him to enter into dialogue with his people without interference from the East or West. The federal government condemns what is happening daily in Belarus – the emasculation of democratic procedures and violence against the opposition,” she said.

As a reminder, on September 29, French President Emmanuel Macron met with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, a former presidential candidate in Belarus. The meeting took place in Vilnius, where the French president arrived on an official visit. According to AFP, Macron’s meeting with Tsikhanouvskaya can be regarded as a demonstration by Paris of serious support for the Belarusian opposition.

On September 23, the Belarusian dictator Lukashenko at the “inauguration” ceremony took the oath of the “president” of Belarus, which he declared himself to be with the help of the Central Election Commission controlled by the Central Election Commission. Ukraine, the USA, and the European Union have announced that they do not recognize Lukashenko as the legitimate president of Belarus.

The response to the illegal inauguration of Lukashenka was the “people’s inauguration” of Tsikhanouvskaya. At least 100 thousand people took to the streets of Minsk on Sunday, and traditional protest actions were also held in other Belarusian cities.
