Pompeo also demanded the release of US citizen Vitaly Shklyarov.

The United States of America will resolutely support the citizens of Belarus who protested against the government. This statement was made by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Ukrinform reports.

“We strongly support the Belarusian people, who continue to demand responsibility for the Belarusian leaders because of the suppression of democracy,” Pompeo said, demanding the immediate release of US citizen Vitaly Shklyarov, who is now in the KGB detention center in Belarus.

Let us remind you that the participants of the opposition March of Pride, which took place on October 11, protested against the falsification of the presidential elections and the usurpation of power by Alexander Lukashenko.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Minsk alone. Similar actions took place in other Belarusian cities.

According to the Viasna human rights center, by midnight alone there were 502 people on the list of detainees, including 45 journalists and photojournalists.

It should be reminded that the protests in Belarus have been going on for over two months. During this time, the security forces detained and beat thousands of citizens. Among the protesters, there are also dead. Dozens disappeared without a trace.
