The Turkish government plans to take both legal and diplomatic action over a new cartoon by French newspaper Charlie Hebdo of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan . The photo, which can be seen below, shows the president lifting a woman’s dress.
Turkish prosecutors have already resigned place an investigation into the case but the two countries have been embroiled in controversy in recent days.
Muslim nations are embroiled in controversy over the actions of the French government following the murder of a Parisian teacher, Samuel Paty , for showing his students caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
President Macron has refused to condemn the images . His administration has, among other things, called for control of mosques, promised to protect French secularism, and called for further action against the small number of French Muslims who the authorities believe are now trying to undermine the French government.
These actions have provoked strong reactions in many Muslim countries and mass protests, including in Pakistan, have taken place.
Earlier this week, Erdogan urged his country to boycott French products, as has happened in other Muslim countries. The president said in a televised address that the French government was oppressing Muslims and calling European leaders fascists.
