Residents of the US city of Philadelphia were all forbidden to go outside the house last night and into the night. The curfew was imposed due to strong protests, as reported by Reuters, who have been in the city since Monday when Walter Wallace, a 22-year-old black man, was shot dead by city police.
Wallace had refused to hand over a knife, but his family said he was nervous when police approached the yard.
He was then shot seven times by two police officers. As a result, protests erupted that led to riots in some parts of the city, with 172 protesters arrested and dozens of police officers injured in the clashes.
Therefore, it was decided to impose a total curfew tonight and it seems to have had its say because the mass protests that were to be held in the city center were canceled and few people were in the city.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, says he has called the National Guard to the police and is expecting troops to arrive in the city tomorrow.
