FIFA confirmed the date of the Club World Cup dispute

The FIFA confirmed that the Club World Cup 2020 will be played in Qatar between February 1 and 11 next year, to allow time for the completion of the different continental competitions after the delays that the coronavirus pandemic forced.

“The 2020 FIFA Club World Cup will now take place from February 1 to 11, 2021, and will take place in Qatar according to the original venue designation by the FIFA Council in June 2019.” the entity said in a statement.

After debating and approving it in the Covid-19 Working Group along with the Confederations, FIFA decided to postpone the event, originally planned for December this year, due to the “disturbing effect” of the pandemic on the continental championships.

In fact, only Bayern Munich (Germany), as a champion of the European Champions League, and the local Qatari club that acts as host, Al-Duhail, are classified for the appointment in which he is looking for a successor to Liverpool from England.

“The introduction of strict return-to-play protocols has facilitated the successful resumption of the continental club championships, the last of which (the Copa Libertadores) is scheduled to conclude at the end of January,” explained FIFA.

On the other hand, the U20 and U17 Women’s World Cups were canceled and the following editions will be played at the venues assigned for the tournaments originally scheduled for 2020, in 2022, given the impossibility of carrying them out in 2021.

“The FIFA-Confederations Covid-19 Working Group recommended that the 2020 editions of the two women’s youth tournaments be canceled and that the hosting rights for the 2022 editions be offered to the countries that were to host the 2020 editions”, they detailed, so Costa Rica will host the U-20 World Cup and India will host the U-17 edition.
