Newly elected US President Joe Biden may appoint retired General Lloyd Austin as head of the Pentagon, Axios reports .
If this information is confirmed, then Austin could become the first African American in history to lead the American army.
Also for this post are considered the candidacies of ex-Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, Senator from Illinois and retired Lieutenant Colonel Tammy Duckworth, and former deputy head of the Pentagon under Barack Obama Michelle Flournoy.
Recall that Biden announced key appointments to his cabinet. He plans to appoint Anthony Blinken, the former US Undersecretary of State in 2015-2017 under President Barack Obama, as the head of the State Department.
Biden wants to appoint Jake Sullivan as National Security Advisor to the President of the United States, and Avril Haynes, former Deputy National Security Advisor to the President of the United States, as Director of National Intelligence.
It is also planned that the former US Undersecretary of State for Homeland Security Alejandro Mallorcas will take of Secretary of Homeland Security, and the former Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Linda Thomas-Greenfield will become the US Permanent Representative to the UN.
Former US Secretary of State John Kerry will become the president’s special envoy for climate issues.
Biden also appointed his former adviser Ron Kline, the chief of staff of the US vice president when Biden held this position under Barack Obama, as White House chief of staff.
