Is the situation already out of control? This is what some fear, what others affirm, at the start of 2021 marked by the sensational arrival of the H5N8 virus in poultry farms in India too after it appeared in some European countries.

Little by little, avian influenza entered the buildings housing the birds, mainly in Delhi, Maharashtra, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana among the most affected region, where the virus made its return at the beginning of December. The authorities ordered the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of animals all across the nation.

The speed of the contagion, particularly high on this strain of H5N8, makes fear the worst during the winters.

Many states have banned the import of poultry products. In the last 2 days there have been several cases of Bird Flu witnessed in the national capital of India- New Delhi.

In 2006, India was hit by the same kind of Bird Flu H5N1. The bird flu resulted in the killing of millions of chickens, ducks, and other poultry birds. The news hit the poultry market and small shop owners and sellers of poultry products were hit the most.
