Mitch McConnell, the leader of the majority in the US Senate, after the vote to recall Donald Trump in the House of Representatives, said that the procedure in the Senate will be initiated after the inauguration of Joe Biden.
Safe inauguration
McConnell said he believed it was best for Congress and the executive branch to be fully focused for the next seven days on enabling Biden’s safe inauguration.

Given the rules, procedures, and senate precedents governing a trial to impeach a president, there is no chance of a fair and serious trial being held before the elected president takes the oath. The Senate has so far held three trials to impeach the president. They lasted 83, 37, and 21 days, said McConnell.
Final judgment
He pointed out that the final verdict would not be passed before Trump leaves office, even if the trial starts this week.
