Russian President Vladimir Putin assured that the manufacturers of the Sputnik V vaccine against the coronavirus organized production in a way that exceeded the plans outlined.
“Mass vaccination started in our country on January 18; ambitious vaccine production plans were drawn up, companies are ahead of their charts, according to what the Minister (of Industry and Commerce, Denis) Manturov informed me,” he said at the inauguration of a meeting with the Cabinet of Ministers without providing further details.
For her part, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova reported that they aspire to vaccinate 60% of the population, that is, 68.6 million people, to achieve herd immunity, reported the Sputnik news agency.
In Russia, about 8.2 million doses of coronavirus vaccines have already been manufactured, of which 2.7 million have already been administered in medical institutions.
“The difference between the volumes produced and those accessible for vaccination – explained Golikova – is due to the need to timely comply with the quality and safety control procedure of the manufactured vaccines.”
