Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu expressed his hope that Washington will return under the new US administration headed by Joe Biden to the nuclear agreement with Iran.

This came in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Muhammad Javad Zarif, in Istanbul, on Friday.

Cavusoglu said, “We hope the Biden administration will return to the nuclear agreement and lift the blockade measures on brotherly Iran.”

He pointed out that he discussed with his Iranian counterpart the bilateral relations extensively, and ways to hold meetings after this was not possible due to the Corona pandemic.

He affirmed Turkey’s support from the beginning of the nuclear agreement, and its contribution to that even before its conclusion.

He referred to the withdrawal of the US administration, under former President Donald Trump, from the nuclear agreement.

He expressed his hope that the Biden administration would return to the nuclear deal and lift the sanctions on Tehran, expressing Turkey’s readiness to provide various types of support to Iran in this context.

In a separate context, Cavusoglu touched on the issue of the Turkish sailors kidnapped in the Gulf of Guinea.

He pointed out that he had received information that the sailors were fine, adding: “We will announce good news soon.”

He stressed that efforts are continuing to rescue the kidnapped sailors, and that he could not provide further details about them at this time.

He pointed out that the three crew members of the ship who survived the kidnapping incident, who arrived in Gabon, will return to Turkey on Friday, on a Turkish Airlines plane.
