Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has promised to resign in April for early elections, Interfax reports. He stated this, speaking at a meeting with residents of the village of Aragats, Armavir region.

“In April I will resign, not to resign, but to wait till early parliamentary elections. During this period, I will continue to be the acting prime minister, ”he told local residents.

In Armenia, the prime minister is obliged to resign in order to dissolve the parliament. If the parliament fails to elect a new prime minister twice by a parliamentary majority, early elections are called. This year, an extraordinary vote is scheduled for June 20. An appropriate agreement was reached as a result of Pashinyan’s negotiations with the opposition earlier in March.

“If you confirm [the powers of parliament], we will continue to serve you better than before, if not, we will transfer power to whoever you choose,” Pashinyan stressed, addressing the villagers.
