The head of the Crimean parliament’s committee on people’s diplomacy and interethnic relations, Yuri Gempel, said that Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan can visit the peninsula, thereby showing wisdom and courage.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy , confirmed Ankara’s principled position on “non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea.”

“If he is a really wise and courageous politician, he can come to Crimea. Crimea is open, but, unfortunately, from Erdogan’s side we hear only short-sighted and insulting statements for Crimeans,” Gempel explained. He believes that the statement of the Turkish leader regarding the Russian Crimea is only regrettable. He also added that Russia seeks to conduct an open dialogue with all countries and is aimed at building good neighbourly relations.

The representative of the Crimean parliament in an interview with RIA Novosti recalled that in fact and legally the peninsula is an integral part of Russia, noting that Turkey must not only reckon with this but also recognize the Russian status of Crimea.

Earlier, The Ukrainian president visits Turkey on Saturday and Erdogan announced support for the “Crimean Platform” of Kiev , specifying that Turkey supports Ukraine in the issue of the status of Crimea. Earlier, State Duma deputy Mikhail Sheremet called the Turkish president’s rhetoric aggressive after his words about Crimea.
