Maas: Assistance only through the UN (AGENCIES PHOTO)

The German foreign minister reacted skeptically to the Taliban’s announcement of an interim government for Afghanistan.

The Taliban announced on Tuesday the formation of an interim government, consisting exclusively of men and warriors who have proven themselves in the 1990s clashes and a 20-year struggle against the US-led coalition. Germany was the main supplier of troops for that alliance .

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said in a statement that his country was ready to provide humanitarian aid through the United Nations and would continue talks with the Taliban to ensure the departure of former employees and others from Afghanistan.

He added that any obligation beyond that would depend on Taliban behavior, the AP reported.

–  The announcement of the formation of an interim government without the participation of other groups and yesterday’s violence against women protesters and journalists in Kabul are not signals that make us optimistic about that – Mass.
