The government forces in Yemen announced, on Tuesday, that they had shot down a “booby-trapped” Houthi drone in the Hudaydah Governorate, in the west of the country.

This came according to a statement by the Media Center of the Giants Brigades (governmental), which was reviewed by The Eastern Herald correspondent.

The statement said that the defenses of the joint forces (government) shot down an attack drone belonging to the Houthi militia.

He added: “The plane was carrying bombs caliber (40 mm) and tried to fly over military sites in the city of Hays, south of Hudaydah.”

It was not possible to obtain an immediate comment from the Houthis on the matter until 23:00 AM. NS.

In a related context, the Houthi group accused, on Tuesday, the coalition of carrying out 17 raids on the Marib Governorate in the center of the country.

According to the Houthi-affiliated Saba News Agency, “the aggression warplanes (the coalition) launched 10 raids on Serwah district, 6 on Al-Abdiyyah district, and a raid on Mahlia in Ma’rib governorate.”

The agency did not address any additional details, while an official statement was not issued by the coalition in this regard until 23:00 GMT.

For nearly 7 years, Yemen has been witnessing a war between government forces and the Houthis, which has killed more than 233,000 people, and 80 percent of its population, numbering about 30 million, has become dependent on aid, in the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, according to the United Nations.

An Arab coalition, led by the Saudi neighbor, has been carrying out military operations in Yemen since 2015, in support of government forces, in the face of the Iranian-backed Houthis, who have controlled governorates, including the capital, Sanaa, since September 2014.
