Sudan.. Promoting the military's standing behind the coup attempt is

The deputy head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), said on Saturday that promoting the military’s support for the coup attempt aims to sympathize with the Sudanese people and the international community, describing this as “hypocrisy.”

This came in a speech by the Sudanese official while offering condolences east of the capital, Khartoum, according to a statement distributed by the media of the “Rapid Support Forces”, which is affiliated with the army, and is led by Hemedti.

He added: “The coup attempt is real and complete, and promoting the military’s position behind the coup is an attempt to sympathize with the Sudanese people and the international community.”

He continued: “Talking about our support for security liquidity (lawlessness) to facilitate the coup is hypocrisy, and we gave them strength (the civilian component of the Sovereignty Council), and we will not remain silent about the truth.”

He added: “I submitted my resignation from the Sovereignty Council 3 times and it was rejected, and we will not sit with them (the civilian component of the Sovereignty Council) in a meeting again.”

Since August 21, 2019, Sudan has been living a 53-month transitional period that ends with holding elections in early 2024, during which power is shared by the army, civilian forces and armed movements that signed a peace agreement with the government on 3 October.

The country will be run during the transitional period by a civilian government, and a Sovereignty Council (representing the presidency) consisting of 14 members; 5 soldiers, 3 armed movements and 6 civilians.

On Friday, Muhammad al-Faki accused Suleiman, a member of the Sovereignty Council from the civilian component, the military component, the partner of the transitional authority in the country, of trying to control the political situation.

Al-Faki said during an interview with the official Sudan TV: “There is an attempt by the military component to modify the political equation, and this violates the partnership process,” considering that “this is the real coup and it is a white coup.”

And on Tuesday, Defense Minister Yassin Ibrahim announced the thwarting of a coup attempt led by Major General Abdul-Baqi Al-Hassan Othman Bakrawi, along with 22 other officers of different ranks, non-commissioned officers and soldiers.

Officials accused figures from the former regime of being behind the failed coup attempt on Tuesday, while the former ruling National Congress Party, during the era of Omar al-Bashir, denied that this was true, while the Sudanese were divided, through their accounts on the communication sites, between those who approved what the authorities announced about the coup attempt, and skeptics. Accuses the military component of plotting a coup against the transitional authority.

On Wednesday, Al-Burhan said, during the graduation ceremony of military forces, west of the capital, Khartoum, that “the political forces are not interested in the problems of citizens,” while Hemedti considered, at the same ceremony, that “the politicians are the cause of the military coups.”
