On Wednesday, the United Nations called on international donors to “accelerate the provision of the necessary funding to address the displacement of civilians, reduce suffering and prevent avoidable deaths in Afghanistan.”

This came in a press conference held by the spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric , at the permanent headquarters of the International Organization in New York.

“We are asking donors to accelerate funding to prevent avoidable deaths, prevent displacement and reduce suffering in Afghanistan,” Dujarric said.

He added: “We also ask donors to ensure that funding is flexible enough to adapt to the rapid conditions and change on the ground, and in three words we say: We want money, money, money.”

And he added, “The recently launched flash appeal seeks $606 million to help 11 million people in the remaining months of this year, but the appeal has only been funded by 22 percent, or $135 million, according to the calculation of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.” Humanity (OCHA).

He continued, “According to the World Health Organization, only 17 percent of the more than 2,300 health facilities in the country, previously supported by the World Bank, are fully functional, and two-thirds of these health facilities have run out of essential medicines.”

On August 15, the “Taliban” movement announced its control of the capital, in parallel with a US military withdrawal that was completed at the end of the same month, which prompted Afghan President Ashraf Ghani to flee the country.
