Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Tuesday that Iran had tried to transfer explosives from Syria to militants in the West Bank through drones.

In a speech at the Political Security Conference of Reichman University in Herzliya (north), Gantz added that Iran had tried to transport explosives from Syria to the West Bank via drones.

He continued, “The drone that crossed the border from Syria was intercepted near Beit Shean (Beisan) in the northern border between Israel and Syria.”

Gantz indicated that the accident occurred in February 2018.

He explained that “the plane was launched from the T4 airport in Syria, which was loaded with explosives, and the shipment was destined for elements in the West Bank.”

Gantz added, “Iran not only uses drones to attack but also to deliver weapons to its envoys.”

He claimed that “one of the main tools is drones, precision weapons that can reach strategic targets within thousands of kilometers, and therefore this ability is already endangering Sunni countries and international forces in the Middle East as well as countries in Europe and Africa,” as he put it.

He pointed out that “Iran is also operating outside the region, transporting oil and weapons to Venezuela, operating the Quds Force in South America and trying to infiltrate its influence in Afghanistan.”

From time to time, Israel launches air attacks on Syrian regime sites and Iranian forces in various Syrian governorates.
