Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan is getting worse, and that assistance to the Taliban [terrorist] regime in Afghanistan and hence Afghan people must continue without interruption.
This came in a press statement held on Sunday, on the sidelines of the 17th Special Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation , on Afghanistan, in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.
Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said that he met earlier today, the acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi [a Taliban leader], and gave him some recommendations and Ankara’s demands from the Taliban government regarding the formation of an inclusive government and observance of women’s rights.
He continued, “Humanitarian aid is important to meet the daily needs of Afghans, but the Afghan people have other needs that cannot be met through humanitarian aid only. Therefore, some funds should also be established.”
And he added: “As you know, a fund has been established within the framework of the United Nations Development Program , and we in Turkey are also contributing to it.”
Cavusoglu stressed the need for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to adopt an effective role in Afghanistan , noting that the official recognition of the Taliban government was not discussed in today’s meeting.
On Sunday morning, the 17th Special Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Afghanistan kicked off in the Pakistani capital , Islamabad.
Representatives of 57 so-called Islamic countries participated in the meeting, as well as delegations as observers, to discuss the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, according to Pakistani media.
The special meeting was held at the request of Saudi Arabia, in its capacity as chair of the 14th Islamic Summit, to “respond to the serious humanitarian crisis facing the Afghan people.”
