Rob Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas , where an armed assailant killed 19 students and two female teachers, will be demolished, the mayor said, BBC reports .
Don McLaughlin said this on Tuesday at a tense and emotional City Council meeting with residents seeking answers to the shooting. He did not say when the school would be demolished.
Public outrage has risen since the May attack, with blame shifting to police who have been waiting more than an hour to confront the attacker.

McLaughlin said the school would be demolished because “you can’t ask a child or a teacher to ever go back to that school.” Rob Elementary School has nearly 600 students in second, third and fourth grades.
– The attack on the 18-year-old, identified as Salvador Ramos, led to a renewed debate on gun laws at the national level.
U.S. senators on Tuesday pushed for a new law regarding mass shootings in what is said to be the most significant new gun controls in a generation.
