Eleven people were killed and eleven injured in Russian missile attacks on Ukraine . This was announced by the chairman of the State Emergency Service, Alexander Khorunzhiy, during the United News telethon.
“Today, as a result of Russian terrorist attacks, both from drones and missiles, there was a defeat in eleven regions. Two fires broke out as a result of these defeats, 35 buildings were damaged, eleven people were injured and, unfortunately, eleven people also died. This information is from 3:00 p.m.,” Khorunzhiy said.
According to him, more than a hundred rescuers and more than 25 equipment were involved in eliminating the consequences of the shelling.
“We have now connected 88 power stations to supply electricity to social facilities, hospitals and others,” Khorunzhiy said.
He added that private and multi-apartment residential buildings were mainly damaged as a result of shelling in the Kiev region.
As the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on its Facebook page, on January 26, 2023, the enemy launched a massive missile attack on critical infrastructure in Ukraine .
“In general, the enemy launched 55 missiles from different bases (up to two Kh-47 Kinzhal, up to forty Kh-101 / Kh-555 cruise missiles, up to six Caliber, four Kh-59 CAR ). The forces and means of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine , in cooperation with units of other components of the Defense Forces, destroyed 47 cruise and guided missiles. Additionally, three of the four X-59 guided missiles failed to hit their targets.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine , the missiles were launched by two MiG-31K aircraft, six Tu-95MS strategic bombers from the Caspian Sea, ships and submarines from the Black Sea, aerial missiles guided Kh-59 – by Aircraft Su-35.Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said on his telegraph channel that following a rocket hitting non-residential buildings in the Goloseevsky district of the capital, there are reports of one dead and two injured.
The head of the president’s office, Andrii Yermak, at 8:27 a.m. local time, said there were “the first Russian missiles shot down.”
Andriy Nebitov, the chief of police of the Kiev region, published in telegrams a photograph of the wreckage of the Kh-55 rocket, which was found in a lake in one of the districts of the region.
“Another confirmation of the crimes of the army of the Russian Federation and the good results of the work of our air defense forces,” he said.
In the Kharkiv region, two people died because of Russian shelling of the village of Dvorichna, said Oleg Sinegubov, head of the Kharkiv regional military administration, quoted by the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty.
“The occupiers fired on the village of Dvorichna this afternoon. According to initial information, two civilians were killed: a man and a woman. Details of the victims and the extent of the destruction are being clarified,” he said. The state energy company Ukrenergo reported that on the night and morning of January 26, Russian troops launched the thirteenth missile strike and carried out the fifteenth drone attack on the Ukrainian energy system.
“There is a hit and damage to equipment in the southern, central and southwestern regions. In the Dnieper region, at one of the power plants, the main high-voltage equipment was destroyed,” the company’s press release reads.
Ukrenergo points out that in the south of the country, in the Odessa region, there are problems with energy supply.
“Emergency shutdowns were introduced across Ukraine during the attack. Currently, the scheduled restriction schedules are gradually returning. The system deficit is significant. Consumption limits have been brought to all regions,” says the message.
Doctor of political science, chairman of the board of directors of the SOVA expert group, Mykhailo Savva notes that Russia has failed to provoke unrest and discontent in Ukrainian society by regularly bombing civilian infrastructure.
“If there were such intentions to upset ordinary Ukrainians with the Ukrainian authorities, they did not materialize and the result is quite the opposite. For the vast majority, it is obvious that the civilian infrastructure is destroyed, and for the Ukrainians, the perpetrators are clear and they are certainly not in Kiev. Additionally, Ukrainian society has adapted to the problems that periodic knocks create in the country’s energy infrastructure,” Savva told the media Russian Service correspondent.
He reminded that a large number of generators and charging stations have been brought to Ukraine , which makes it possible to cope with the disconnection of centralized electricity supply.
“We can say that every Ukrainian house has increased the level of its energy autonomy. In my example and (example) of my neighbors – we have already adapted. But I want to emphasize that according to global studies, wars are not won by the destruction of civilian infrastructure, it is simply impossible to destroy the country’s modern energy infrastructure, ”emphasizes the expert.
He also notes that domestically, new Russian missile strikes are becoming less and less successful, as Ukrainian air defense works more efficiently and the ability to repair damaged objects increases.Political observer Marat Hakobyan is convinced that the occupiers’ continued attacks on Ukraine ‘s civilian infrastructure are more a form of agony than a desire for war.
“It is already evident that the Russian military command does not have clear mechanisms to get out of this situation, and they are trying all methods familiar to them. I suspect that the Kremlin has long understood the pointlessness of war, but lacks the courage to accept that it is at an impasse and that Russia ‘s situation will get worse every day. There is no courage in accepting a fiasco in this war,” Hakobyan said.
Strengthening air and missile defence, he said, is the only way to minimize the consequences of Russian missile attacks. “, – says the political scientist.
