A large sports complex will be built for Chelyabinsk basketball players

Governor of the Chelyabinsk region and President of the Russian Basketball Federation Andrey Kirilenko discussed the development of sports in the southern Urals. The prominent Russian basketball player visited the region during the Basketball Super Bowl 3×3.

On January 27-28, Chelyabinsk hosted the first stage of the Winline Championship of Russia and the 3×3 Basketball Super Cup. Andrei Kirilenko, who also met Alexei Teksler, became a guest of the large-scale event. In particular, during the event, the parties signed an agreement on cooperation in the development and popularization of basketball.

Alexey Teksler noted that a “basketball boom” has begun in the Chelyabinsk region. The Southern Urals show good results in different leagues. According to him, the number of people involved in basketball has increased several times over the past three years.

“By involving more and more children and young people, by developing basketball as a grassroots sport in the region, we will replenish our clubs with the best athletes. We have set the task for these clubs to grow, including moving to higher leagues. We will also continue to organize important basketball competitions in the region,” said Alexey Teksler.

Basketball is growing in popularity in the region and has already acquired the status of a grassroots sport. Two men’s teams “Chelbasket” and “Metallurg” from Magnitogorsk, which participate in the Higher League, play in the region.

Much attention is paid to the development of sports infrastructure. So, in 2024, Chelyabinsk plans to put into operation the RMK Arena, a large sports complex where the main basketball clubs of the city will be able to play. In addition, the implementation of the project to build a basketball training center has already started.

In turn, the President of the Russian Basketball Federation Andrei Kirilenko said that he often cites the Chelyabinsk region as an example.

“I agree that now there is a basketball boom in the Chelyabinsk region. It’s great when the government works together with the Federation. I cite the Chelyabinsk region as an example for many regions, because in recent years there has been a huge leap forward. The development of basketball in the region will continue. Chelyabinsk is a serious center of basketball, which recently appeared on the basketball map of the country,” the head of the federation stressed.

In addition, Andrei Kirilenko visited sports schools, where he spoke with the basketball community and students. On the same day, the basketball player, together with Alexei Teksler, attended the matches of the 3×3 Russian Super Cup.

The competition brought together 30 teams, and these are the 120 strongest athletes. The Chelyabinsk region was represented by three men’s teams – “Kurchatov” (Chelyabinsk), “Uralets” (Zlatoust) and “Metallurg” (Magnitogorsk), as well as a women’s team – “Pozitiv (Chelyabinsk)”.

Tickets for the next stage of the competition were won by HeliTab and Stella-Pro from Yekaterinburg, Bionord PRO from Perm and Khimki Power from Khimki. In addition, “Kurchatov” from Chelyabinsk, having demonstrated high-quality play at the Winline of the Russian Championship, also received the right to compete in Kazan.
