Krasnoyarsk wrestlers won 4 medals at the Ivan Yarygin Cup

The capital of the Krasnoyarsk Territory hosted one of the brightest sporting events dedicated to the memory of a compatriot – two-time Olympic champion Ivan Yarygin. More than 400 athletes from 12 countries around the world took part, the city administration’s press service reported.

Greco-Roman wrestling competitions for the Ivan Yarygin Cup ended in Krasnoyarsk. More than 400 athletes from 12 countries around the world – Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Greece, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Serbia and Iran took to the tatami at the Sports Palace this year.

The opening ceremony of the competition traditionally began with the laying of flowers at the monument to Ivan Yarygin. An exhibition of the Sports Museum of Ivan’s childhood was opened on the second floor of the Sports Palace – the organizers recreated the atmosphere of the house where the champion grew up as much as possible.

After that, the cancellation ceremony of a postcard issued specifically for the contest took place. Its circulation was 1000 copies. The card was canceled with a special stamp, which indicates the date of the event. The ceremony was hosted by Minister of Sports of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Denis Petrovsky, Hero of Russia, Honorary Master of Sports of the USSR, three-time Olympic champion and nine-time world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Alexander Karelin and President of the Interregional charitable public foundation for the promotion of sport. During four days of competition, Krasnoyarsk wrestlers won one gold and three bronze medals. In total, Russian athletes have 50 awards – 15 gold, 14 silver and 31 bronze. The Mongolian team took second place with 4 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals. Belarus closed the top three – 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze. Iran, Greece, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan each have 1 bronze medal.

And now more about the Krasnoyarsk medalists: in the weight category up to 79 kg in the match for the bronze medal, Krasnoyarsk wrestler Azret Ulimbashev beat his partner in the regional team Nikita Suchkov. In another fight for third place in the 125 kg category, Eric Dzhioev from Krasnoyarsk defeated Iranian Amir Amiri. Also, Igor Ovsyannikov became a bronze medalist in the weight category up to 97 kg, and Khanum Velieva from Krasnoyarsk won a gold medal in the weight category up to 68 kg. We also clarify that Khanum Veliyeva received a special award from the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss in the amount of 300,000 rubles. Vladislav Loginov presented Krasnoyarsk wrestler Igor Ovsyannikov with a prize of 250,000 rubles from the mayor of Krasnoyarsk. Another 50,000 rubles were awarded to Eric Dzhioev “for the best technique”. Azret Ulimbashev also received a special award. According to the mayor’s office, following the results of the Cup, a new composition of the Russian national team will be formed.

Previously, Abdullaeva from Krasnoyarsk set a record in ski jumping.
